35.BI-MU – the leading Italian event dedicated to the industry manufacturing metal-cutting and metal-forming machine tools, robots, automation, digital and additive manufacturing, auxiliary and enabling technologies – will, as per tradition, combine the exhibition offering with a program of meetings and thematic insights aimed at operators attending the fair, hosted on October 14th and 15th in the BI-MUpiù arena .

Throughout the exhibition, from 13 to 16 October at Fieramilano Rho , the pavilions will host one-on-one discussions, performances, cultural insights and conferences dedicated to the sector.

The heart of this program will be the BI-MUpiù events arena (Hall 24, Stand C47), which this year, among other initiatives – curated by the organizers and exhibitors – will host two thematic forums dedicated to some of the most dynamic sectors in terms of investment and innovation: Aerospace & Defense and Energy , scheduled for Wednesday 14 and Thursday 15 October respectively.

Thanks to these Forums, BI-MU will broaden its horizons and will be able to offer operators present at the fair, through the direct voice of some production operations directors of leading companies in these sectors, a timely discussion on the technologies needed today and for the future: the most interesting business opportunities for exhibitors .

The events will feature discussions between representatives of some of the leading large, medium, and small businesses, covering the broad spectrum of companies in the key sectors involved.

“90 minutes with the world of Aerospace & Defense” is the title of the first Forum scheduled for Wednesday, October 14th at 10:00 a.m. Speakers at the meeting will include Carlo Fenoglio , Executive Manufacturing Engineer Management at Avio Aero; Tiziano Pegorin , Director of the Turin plant at Thales Alenia Space; Carmine Schips , General Manager of OMA; Valentina Pedretti , Member of the Board of Directors of PMP; and Luca Carafa , General Manager of CARAFA.

The second Forum, entitled “90 minutes with the world of Energy” , scheduled for Thursday 15 October at 10.00 am, will bring together Valerio Maffi , General Manager of Cavagna Group, Manuel Cortinovis , CEO of GFM, Alessandro Montagner , Commercial Director of BFR Meccanica, and Osvaldo Finazzi , President of Osvaldo Finazzi.

The challenges facing the current era, the main production process needs of companies operating in these sectors, and the specific demands placed on production technology suppliers are some of the questions the guests at the two round tables will address.

New formats enrich the program. AMB provides new impetus to the entire metal cutting industry. As part of the AMB Preview, Messe Stuttgart presented a preview of AMB 2026, outlining the key events of the international metalworking trade fair. AMB will be held from September 15 to 19, 2026, at Messe Stuttgart's exhibition center. New appointments in the 2026 program: the Defense sector and cooperation with BW_i for the development of international trade relations For the first time, AMB is offering the "Defence & Security Opportunities" format, a platform dedicated to a growing topic. In collaboration with VDMA, Messe Stuttgart is creating a targeted framework to address a crucial question: how can the metal cutting industry contribute to the rapid and reliable expansion of defense production capacities, from individual component production to series production? The format connects defense OEMs and their suppliers directly with AMB exhibitors. Participating companies will present scalable production solutions through introductory talks, followed by two guided tours of selected exhibition halls. The "Defence & Security Opportunities" format will take place on Wednesday, September 16th and Friday, September 18th in a private setting. Participation is subject to prior registration, and spaces are limited. Another new initiative is the collaboration with BW_i – Baden-Württemberg International for the "International Gallery powered by BW_i" initiative. Ten international trade associations will be present at the East Entrance in front of Hall 1. These include organizations from India (VDMA India), Italy (Italcam), Taiwan (TMBA and TAMI), and Spain (AFM). At country-specific Happy Hours, national and international guests will have the opportunity to network and network in an informal atmosphere, exploring the opportunities offered by their respective markets. This initiative is aimed specifically at specialized operators who, after finishing their workday, want to experience the latest innovations and trends in metal-cutting machining firsthand. A special discounted ticket will grant access to both the trade fair and the subsequent AMB Night, during which industry content creators will also be present for a Meet & Greet session with the public. AMB 2026: a program designed for the entire metal cutting industry AMB 2026 offers a rich supporting program, designed to meet the needs and diverse perspectives of the entire industry. "Where metal comes alive" is precisely the concept embodied at AMB, where the entire metal cutting value chain comes together, representing the full diversity and richness of the sector. The VDMA Technology Forum, in Hall 1, will offer practical technical presentations on topics such as the circular economy and cost-effective production. The AMB Stage will feature a different central theme each day: Tuesday will be dedicated to the aerospace sector, while Friday will focus on maintenance. On Wednesday, September 16, the main topic will be artificial intelligence in production. The program will begin at 12:00 with presentations organized by VDMA Software and Digitalization. At 2:00 PM, the panel discussion "Artificial Intelligence in Manufacturing: From Hype to Value Creation," organized by WIN-Verlag, will take place on the AMB Stage. Leading experts will discuss topics such as the use of AI in process optimization, predictive maintenance, AI-supported quality assurance, and the profitability of AI-based projects. Following the panel discussion, visitors will have the opportunity to engage directly with the speakers as part of the "Meet the Expert" initiative, which will take place in the VIP Lounge. Other events on the agenda: from innovation to young talents The Start-up Area, located at the East Entrance, will offer an overview of the latest ideas, technologies, and innovative solutions, while the AMB Award will recognize the most significant innovations and technological developments presented at the fair. Riccardo Rosa, president of UCIMU: "We'll have to wait until the next few months to see the full effects of the hyper-depreciation, but we're very confident this measure will last until September 2028." In the second quarter of 2026, the machine tool orders index compiled by the UCIMU-SISTEMI PER PRODURRE Study & Business Culture Centre recorded a decline of -25.8% compared to the April-June 2025 period . In absolute value, the index stood at 47.8 (base 100 in 2021). The result expresses the difficulties that Italian machine tool manufacturers have encountered both on the domestic and foreign markets. In particular, orders collected from abroad decreased by -15.3% compared to the second quarter of 2025, for an absolute value of 63.2. Order intake in Italy also declined , falling 38.7% compared to the same period of the previous year. The absolute value of the index stood at 33.1. Riccardo Rosa, president of UCIMU-SISTEMI PER PRODURRE, stated: “The uncertainty of the geopolitical context—shaken by wars, the Hormuz crisis, and the decidedly worrying attitude of the President of the United States toward international politics—has profoundly undermined the already precarious balance in which the industry found itself operating.” "The decline in international deliveries, given the current situation, is understandable, and we expected it. Business has slowed, but, as is our custom, we've tried to focus our offerings on those areas less directly affected by conflicts and critical issues, diversifying our product offerings wherever possible." "It is certain ," continued President Riccardo Rosa , " that the investment figures and values once ensured by the automotive industry cannot be replaced by the demand expressed by other sectors, however dynamic, such as defense, aerospace, and energy. For this reason, once again, we ask our representatives in Europe to reconsider their decision and adopt the principle of technological neutrality when defining automotive development plans. This approach would allow the industry, and its entire supply chain, to properly manage the ongoing transition, not only respecting the environment but also safeguarding, where possible, employment." Domestically, businesses awaited clarifications on the hyper-depreciation program to confirm their purchasing intentions. Since June 12th, the day all the operational steps were completed, the hyper-depreciation program has been bearing fruit. We immediately noticed a change in attitude among Italian users: orders are starting to arrive. "We'll have to wait a few more months, however, for the effect to be fully reflected in our data, but we're definitely confident. This is also because, in the meantime, we have data from the Ministry of Business and Made in Italy, which, as of July 9th, reported the submission of 7,000 communications on the GSE platform, worth €2.5 billion." MIMIT deserves great credit for having established a multi-year term for this incentive. Its effectiveness until September 2028 should ensure thoughtful planning of investments in new machine tools and production technologies by Italian customers, also allowing us manufacturers to plan our production activities over the medium term. "The hope ," concluded Riccardo Rosa , " is to soon see the Italian market return to the levels it experienced in 2021-2022, when it was worth over €6 billion. This is also because our manufacturing industry needs to innovate to remain competitive in an international context where digital and AI are completely reshaping the rules of the game."
