Steute's Controltec business unit has expanded its range of wireless foot switches with a variant specially developed for heavy-duty applications such as welding stations.
In these applications, wireless foot switches really make sense because the lifespan of wired foot switches can be limited due to possible solder residues that damage the cables. Furthermore, during normal work processes, cables can pose a tripping hazard.
Traditional foot switches, however, are not suitable in this case, because their protective shields are not large enough for the reinforced safety shoes worn by welders, who still need to be able to operate the pedals freely.
Especially for these heavy-duty applications, steute has designed a robust, enlarged protective shield made of powder-coated steel. The shield is attached to the wireless foot switch and offers enough space to operate both pedals even when wearing reinforced safety shoes to protect against welding spatter. The protective shield also protects against inadvertent actuation of the pedals. A carrying handle facilitates flexible positioning of the foot switch.
An RF GFS 2 XL wireless transmitter has been integrated into the protective shield, well protected from mechanical impacts, so that its signals can reliably reach the antenna of the corresponding receiver unit. The sWave wireless technology used allows ranges of up to 45 meters indoors, even under adverse industrial conditions. The RF GFS 2 XL is one of the first switches to be equipped with this wireless technology - SW2.4LE-IND - in series production.
This new wireless foot switch was originally developed as a custom design for a company that produces welded structures. Having been successfully tried and tested in that application, it is now available in steute's standard range of wireless switching devices.
